Windows Operating System - Owned by Microsoft Inc. Founded by Bill Gates.
Linux Operating System (many distributions eg Ubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat etc) - An open source operating system.

This thread is to compare and contrast both os, trying to revel the real winner of the 'e-war' TODAY.
This thread is always open for answers and replies. Feel free to contribute.

No, Linux is not Mac.
* Windows is an enterprise Operating in System owned by Microsoft and the license is sold at some fee. (can be installed in any whose configuration meets the minimum requirements). Windows is owned by Microsoft.
* Mac OS is an enterprise operating system running on Unix Karnel. The license is not free and can only be installed in Mac PC. Mac is owned by Apple Inc.

* Linux is an open source operating system running on Unix kernel as well and is distributed in many branches. Each Distro is unique in its way. The license is free, unlike Windows and Mac OS. Linux is an Open Source OS maintained by the community of volunteers.
Thanks.

@Chinwike
I don't think you get my explanation above, Linux is free and can be freely downloaded on the each of the Distro's websites. We have Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc.
Of course there is no restrictions and the source codes is open.
Thanks.
